Establishment

The Judicial Service Commission is established under Article 171 of the Constitution of Kenya and operationalized by the Judicial Service Act No.1 of 2011.

Our Mandate

The Commission is mandated to promote and facilitate the independence and accountability of the Judiciary and the efficient, effective and transparent administration of justice under Article 172 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

JSC engagement with the Nairobi National Government Administration

The Judicial Service Commission this morning engaged the Nairobi National Government Administration on the pressing need to enhance access to justice in the Capital city, home to 5.5 million Kenyans. The Judicial Service Commission reiterates its commitment to promote and facilitate the effective and efficient administration of justice in Kenya.

In the last financial year, the Tribunals achieved a remarkable Case Clearance Rate of 111%, resolving 15,173 cases compared to the 13,712 cases filed. Notably, the Rent Restriction Tribunal, the Business Premises Rent Tribunal, the Tax Appeal Tribunal, and the Cooperative Tribunal have led the way with the highest clearance rates.

Who can Lodge a Complaint with the Commission?

Any person. However, a complainant/petitioner may authorize any person including a legal representative to lodge the petition on their behalf.

Who can you complain against?

Judge, Judicial Officer (Magistrates, Kadhis, Registrars), Judicial Staff (Judiciary & JSC), or a Court Station

How long does JSC take to determine a complaint/petition?

Six (6) months. The Commission may extend the period depending on the circumstances and complexity of the complaint/petition.

Preparation of a case

Six (6) months. The Commission may extend the period depending on the circumstances and complexity of the complaint/petition

Does JSC communicate to the complainant the outcome of the complaint/petition?

The Commission shall upon receipt of the complaint/petition acknowledge receipt.

The Commission shall upon consideration of the complaint/petition communicate the outcome to all the parties.
